What is the easiest, most cost efficient way to get wireless internet in my home?

One salesman told me that since I already had AOL dial up service, all I needed was an adapter that cost about $80. He said that the adapter would allow me to continue getting AOL on my desktop computer, and if I purchase a notebook (which I am plan to do in a week or so) the adapter will put the wireless signal in the air around my home. Other than the cost of that adapter, this is the most cost efficient way to get wireless internet into a house. Is this correct? And if so, what is the name of the adapter?

i agree, i don't know if it's worth setting up a network on a dial-up connection. all devices will end up sharing the connection and it'lll really bog down.
i would look into getting hi-speed internet, like cable or dsl. here's why (very rough numbers):
- you already pay maybe $25/mo for aol?
- for $15/mo more you could get hi-speed internet
- for $15-20 you could get a used (maybe even new) wireless "B" router, spend more for a wireless "G" router for greater signal strength, faster speeds, etc.)
- for the cost of that $80 device you can get pay for 4 months of hi-speed and the "B" router
believe me, once you get hi-speed internet you'll wonder how you did without it as long as you did. when multiple pc's in your house can share the connection w/out any noticeable slowdown you'll feel the extra $ was worth it.
most routers come with an easy setup CD. you just plug in all the devices, run the setup wizard, come back in and do some advanced stuff (change the default admin password! and encrypt teh connection so your neighbors can't poach your signal) and you're done! really pretty easy.
